My question involves real estate located in the State of: Washington
My neighbor just installed a video camera about 12 feet off the ground at the top of the back wall of his shed, 5 feet from the fence line. His wall is parallel with our backyard fence and the camera is one of those "eye" type cameras. It is not possible to tell how the camera is pointing but they obviously have the ability to point it directly into our yard without our knowledge. The fence is 6 feet high.
I believe this is a violation of my privacy. With that camera in place, I do not have a reasonable expectation of privacy. Anytime they want they get a full view of our backyard. Note that our backyard is not visible from the street or from any public location.
Tomorrow I am calling the police to see if they will do anything. But, from a quick web search, it sounds like this is a grey area, except if you want to hang out in my backyard and expect no one to see you.
Can anyone provide any advice on how to handle this, what my rights are, and what I might say to the police?
Thanks
