Custody and Visitation Issues: Ex Now Traveling Extensively, Does 2-2-3 Schedule Still Apply

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: Michigan

Hello everyone,

My ex-husband and I share joint legal and joint physical custody of our two children. Per our JOD, we follow a 2-2-3 parenting time schedule, with alternating holidays. A couple of months ago, my ex took a new job requiring him to travel extensively. He is living out of a hotel in California for 3 weeks at a time and returns to Michigan for a weekend in between, at which time I surrender the children to him. The children are in my custody while he is in California.

Long story short, he has been threatening to enforce the 2-2-3 schedule even while in California. He wants his girlfriend and/or parents to have the children on "his days". No neglect or abuse on my part; he is simply an abusive person and seeks to punish me (using the children) on a regular basis.

My question to you all is, does his threat have any substance? Can his girlfriend and/or parents legally take the children on "his days"? I thought the point of parenting time was for the children to spend time with the actual parent. No where in our JOD does it specify that either of us can designate any particular individual to fill in during our parenting time.

Thank you in advance for any advice you are able to provide.
