My question involves criminal law for the state of: New York
August 2016 my 20 year old daughter and I went to NY for a holiday. When shopping my daughter was accused of taking labels off of clothes before trying to purchase them. She did not have her passport on her so was taken to the police station. She was held for an hour fingerprinted and let go with no paperwork. Now a couple of weeks ago she went back to NY for another holiday. Her passport was flagged but not told why and was allowed to enter. Since she returned to the uk we have been trying to find out why it was flagged. Today I found out she has a bench warrant on her for not attending court in October 2016! She didn't know she had been arrested and never received any correspondence. ( they did have her uk address from her driving licence)
So now I don't know how to proceed. Firstly I don't know why she was arrested I was with her when shopping and she did nothing wrong. And now she has missed her date to appear and has a bench warrant how do we sort this out and if possible from the uk. Can anyone help please.
