Retail Fraud / Shoplifting: How Do I Increase My Chances of Receiving Diversion After I Accidentally Shoplifted

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Nebraska

I am a 20 year old male with no previous convictions. I was at a sporting goods store looking at duck calls and decided to buy one. I proceeded to look around the store and went to look at rifle scopes. When I started picking up the scopes I put the call in my pocket not thinking about it. I decided to buy a scope but forgot about the call when I checked out. Loss prevention officers stopped me on my way out which is when I realized I forgot about the call (I know that this will not be believable in court as I am sure they hear it all the time). I was compliant with them and said that from the video it did look like an accident but the had to call the police because it was company policy. The guys that stoped me said that I should get diversion and that they appreciated my cooperation. How do I increase my chances of getting diversion. Do I plead guilty or not guilty? I am in college now and do not want this on my record when I am applying for jobs.
