My question involves civil rights in the State of: Vermont
A man came to my house and started shouting at me in the street. I came out and began video recording him.
I am a member of a marginalized group and have witnessed and experienced numerous situations where a white, wealthy males word was held with higher value by society. It has been repeatedly stressed that recording devices are often our only form of self-defense.
In this instance this man highered a lawyer who convinced the court that because I was recording I was monitoring him and therefore he was awarded a restraining order against me.
I did not present the video because I didn't have the means and I never thought it would be considered illegal to openly record someone threatening me.
Is there a law that protects people who are recording someone who is threatening them?
