Starting a Business: Is There a Confict of Interest

My question involves business law in the state of: Pennsylvania

In the spirit of innovation I have been socializing a new business approach to my employer. I have spoken with 1/2 dozen vice presidents over the last 2years on a new direction for the company. All think its a good idea. All won't do anything to champion it. Its an industry change idea. A change the industry sorely needs. I have been told that the company won't move forward because it does not want to face the market disruption. :wallbang: I want to take this idea and now start my own business.

I just completed the annual Code of Conduct and after completing it, I feel that it should have my picture on it labeled "Don't be like this guy". But I'm bothered because I'm doing something which the company rejected. Why is there a conflict? I'm not using any company assets or time to get things started. But I feel like a criminal. I never signed any non-compete clauses or anything like that. But I know HR would have a field day with me. I wish I could just quit but I need the paycheck to support the family. Can HR fire me for doing something the company rejected? I'm so disgusted right now.
