Medical Malpractice: Long Rectal Cuff Left in J Pouch Surgery for Ulcertaive Colitis

My question involves malpractice in the state of: New York .
I had a surgery done in NYC in March 2016 , iI had some symptoms ever since then which i ignored for sometime thinking that it was related to recovery from surgery.I discovered in May 2017 that it was from the long rectal cuff ( 5cm long ) left at the time of surgery , which is ideally supposed to be 1- 3 cm .I didn't find this until i started to bleed again in May 2017 and i had to rush to ER .I live in Texas now and my IBD specialist and another colorectal surgeon here in Texas told me that it was because of severe inflammation in my rectal cuff which was supposed to be 1cm long but it is unfortunately 5 cm. I had been on several medications ever since then with no change in severity of inflammation in that part . Surgeon here says that i have to do redo surgery to excise extra 4 cms . I also had an opinion from another gastroenterologist in Mayo clinic .She also said that surgery wasn't done right .I am not sure if its worth suing the surgeon who did the surgery for this kind of substandard care.please recommend .Thanks
