My question involves insurance law for the state of: PA
I recently needed a MRI. I had it done at the local hospital and was told the provider was in network. After the procedure, I received my explanation of benefits from the health insurance company stating that the provider was in-network and I would be responsible for the negotiated rate of around $300. Then I received my bill from the hospital. It was for over $2,000 with no adjustments shown. After a lot of back and forth with the insurance company and hospital, the insurance company admitted a mistake, and the provider was out of network and re-did my explanation of benefits saying I am responsible for the standard rate. Of course now the hospital wants the full amount. Do I have any recourse? I appealed, the insurance company said they made a mistake, but tough luck. The hospital knows the situation, and I have asked if there are any discounts, etc. available. They want their full amount. Frustrating part is the other hospital in town is in-network. I could have easily gone there if I had known.
Probably SOL but seeing if anyone had some advice.
