Carlos was campaigning to be elected the next governor of the state. Helena was a rival candidate. Carlos told Helena that unless she withdraws as a candidate and supports him for Governor, he would make sure that she would not be considered for any other appointed positions in the state. She dropped out of the race and asked her constituency to support Carlos. Her support gave Carlos the necessary additional votes that he needed to be elected.
