My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Connecticut
After suspecting for some time that someone was entering her dwelling and stealing her property, my mother installed a series of security cameras in her apartment. Over a one month period, these cameras captured another tenant entering her apartment. During that period, the lock on her front door was also disabled.
The landlord was recently presented with this information, and copies of the video footage. For two days now, he has done nothing to address the obvious concerns about the break-ins. He has not even attempted to respond.
Should he? What is his responsibility of the landlord in this situation? Where does his liability begin and end?
Also, and I'm sure this is a ridiculous question, but can my mother press charges against this tenant? How would she go about it? Would the police want to see the surveillance footage?
I'd really appreciate any information that anyone might be willing to share.
