My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: Florida
I had a Plymouth Sundance in the early 1990s with a small lien on it. My father drove it out of state with the intentions of moving and taking over what was left of the lien to pay it off. This was approximately 1994...All I know is that he returned to Florida a very short (a month or so) time later sans Plymouth and in a brand new vehicle. He could not give me a straight story on what happened to it.
I recently went to the DMV to register a new vehicle with a new plate and the title. The clerk was trying to save me the $225 fee (very nice of her), and attempted to use the old Plymouth registration. I was surprised it was still there because I had forgotten about it and never looked after all these years. She could not transfer the the registration because it still holds the lien. It is with a bank that is no longer in business, and one I have never heard from since the Plymouth basically disappeared.
How do I have this lien and registration removed? I do not own the vehicle. No lien shows on my credit report. I have no idea where the vehicle is honestly. A VIN search shows very little, but I have not pulled a CarFax (if that is even necessary). It still shows it is mine. My father is unable to provide any clear explanation, so I would like to explore what needs to be done legally.
