I am engaged to a woman who came up with a business idea 6 months ago. She didn’t have the money to get it off the ground and asked me to help her. She has crappy credit from a previous divorce. I told her no. I couldn’t help her.
She suggested that we could do this business together because there was some cross over into my line of business. I told her I could see the possibility of it working, but that I would not be willing to risk my reputation and help her sell anything to my colleagues. She was offended.
She secretly went and tried to get a loan. She couldn’t. Then she got lucky and got an investor. I told her I didn’t believe she had an investor “meeting” so she told me that I could come but that I needed to act like a case study and verify how her idea would work for my area of business — for the investors. She didn’t tell them we were engaged.
She got her money and she gave me no equity. I became pissed. I told her that I wanted some involvement and that she would have never gotten anywhere if I wasn’t there to sell it.
She made me a paid consultant. I think it was just a legal way to prevent me to get equity/ She said that it makes no sense to her because if we are married, I will get half company. That’s not true. I’ve been divorced. Whatever happens before marriage is the way it is. She will probably leave me once she gets all the cash — use me — and then i’m left with nothing.
I’m not happy, obviously, and I’ve told her so.
Recently I introduced her to a guy who is a big wig in my circles. She presented the business to him (with her business partner/inveostr) and he loved it. He was so excited he wanted to invest. He has money. I have none.
So he started to volunteer his time to help her get a big contract and has asked for equity over 2 years — if he secures contracts. They are currently writing legal documents to allow for this.
I INTRODUCED THEM AND I GET NOTHING!
I recently found out that they are no longer going to pay me because this guy is providing all this info to them and isn’t getting paid.
I said this is bullshit. I told her if she doesn’t give me equity or if we break up — I will make sure he pulls out of her company and she goes nowhere.
I told her that the ONLY reason she is anywhere is because of me and she is guaranteed to fail in 6 months if she doesn’t have me. I have the connections and the respect in my industry. She has no clue what she’s doing.
Today she tells me that her business partner/investor would prefer I don’t attend any other business meetings because he’s worried about ownership issues because I sent an email (copying everyone) and called her my wife. I guess she corrected this to him - and let them know we aren’t married because we live in a common law marriage state.
I told her that’s insane. I used the term wife to make it easier for the possible contact to like her…. since I was REFERRING HIM TO HER!
So now I get no equity. (She says she will give me 3 percent equity if I want it but I must work 30 hours a month per her business partner) I AM HER FIANCE . I CONNECTED HER! AND I NEED TO BEG FOR 3 PERCENT OF THIS!
I am no longer being paid monthly and I’m not being invited to business meetings.
