In September of 2017 I was diagnosed with a serious illness. My employer at the time refused to provide any accommodations for me to continue working, and placed me on an involuntary unpaid leave. I call it being terminated, as my manager at the time collected my badge and keys, I gathered my belongings, and I was asked to leave the premises. I filed an EEOC charge and the employer lied about my reason for termination. He said that I had left voluntarily but could not produce a letter of resignation nor a witness to any "I quit" type of statements.
Fast forward to today, and I'm being worked up for a recurrence of the illness. This will require stronger medication to treat. I have a job I enjoy, and I want to ensure that the same thing does not happen to me. I have better insurance, including short term and long term disability, but I want to continue working. I know that not all scenarios are predictable, but how do I avoid the same thing happening? Or, is there any scenario in which I can be denied reasonable accommodations - working from home some days, shorter work days, etc. - in order to keep my job?
