My question involves paternity law for the State of: North Carolina
My friend and his now wife had a baby out of wedlock a couple years back. The fathers name was not listed on the birth certificate for whatever reason. He's wanting to divorce his wife but he's afraid she'll try to keep the child away from him due to his name not being on the certificate. What needs to be done to have his name added so he has legal rights to the child? Is DNA testing needed? I'm pretty sure she won't let this happen the easy way, meaning she's not just going to sign a paper giving concent for the certificate to be changed.
