My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: wisconsin
i had a debt from 2006 of around 4,000. i was young then and didnt think anything of it. now i have a decent job and a nice place to live when i get a letter from a collector telling me they are gonna garnish my wages and a notice to appear but no date. i called the clerks office and was told they picked up the debt. i get another letter saying there garnishing my wages for the amount of 11,000. i write back saying i am disputing the amount. they send me a paper with the original amount and state its added fees. i call them to work out some kind of payment but am told they are already garnishing my wages and thats that. this dosent seem right to me how can they do this after 12yrs and how can they charge me almost 3x the original amount?
