a Brazilian Research About the U.S. Criminal Procedure

Hello, I'm from Brazil and I'm doing a research about criminal procedures from different countries. I've done a lot of research about the US Federal System at the internet but there are things that I have not found.

About the criminal appeals procedure at the US Federal Circuit Courts:

1 - When someone file an appeal, and then the briefs are filed, do all the 3 judges of a panel have access to the briefs simultaneously? Or the appeal is analyzed only by one of the judges from the panel and after that, he presents the case to the other 2 judges?

2 - The judges from a panel meet to discuss the case before they decide? And when do they settle that the case needs oral arguments, they meet again after the oral arguments?

3 - The panel of judges are random or the judges stay in the same panel for a long time?

4 - How much is the average of appeals granted?

5 - When a person is convicted for a Trial Court he goes to jail immediatly or is more common that he can appeal in freedom?

I know that can be simple questions for you, but it would help a lot my research.

Thank you all!

PS: sorry about my terrible english but legal terms are difficult to translate.
