Roommates: One Roommate Leaving After End of Lease Term and the Other Staying Month to Month

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: California (San Francisco)

I have a lease in SF that ends August 31, 2018 and will roll-over to a month to month following the end of the lease term. I am moving out of San Francisco but my roommate is wanting to stay for up to three months. I plan to give my 30 days notice in July. From my point-of-view, I have fulfilled the contract in which I signed (note: my roommate and I each signed the same contract). I will have paid rent through the end of the lease term and do not agree to a month to month lease. It would seem that if the lease to continue to a month to month, both signers of the lease would have to agree to this. As such, if I give my notice, is it now my roommate's responsibility to negotiate and enter into a new lease with the landlord? This would include me getting back my share of the security deposit.
