My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Florida
This lease was created 6 years ago. Since then we were moved to another unit and lease was never revised nor did we receive a new one. A year after residing in the other unit They moved us back to the old. Since then (2014) we have received a new lease when landlord hired a management company. It was a six month lease that ended on May 31st. They have been neglecting our request for 2 years to make are unit habitable (many many violations). Someone called code enforcement and they expressed that our unit was far worse (out of code) then the others. They were given a violation notice to fix everything in such amount of time. Before this happened the landlord served us with a non compliance and termination for violations that were so laughable. We were nerver served or verbally given a notice to cure. During this time they started renovating the other 3 vacant units and I figured this was the reason they gave us a non legit notice to vacate. They then said they would give us some time by moving us to another unit and use our deposit for one months rent which they claimed was $1100.00. If you read the lease, they screwed up and owe us $2050.00 for their mistake. These people (this family) are idiot slumlords and ive been doing extensive research on our rights. Every day they change their minds on what they want to do. Now, the latest is they are going to give the last of the residing units less than a month to vacate claiming the will be demolishing the property. I don't believe this at all 1) why would they just now spend the money to update and renovate units? 2) they can't demolish 4 of the cottages because they are considered a historical landmark 3) well theyre just ignorant slumlords who know none of the laws and are only doing this so they can get new tanants in to increase rent on the property. We have all our ducks in a row and all our documents and we are taking them to court. It has been an extremely stressful and emotionally draining month, years!
I'm asking...is the lease attached legit, they didn't even sign it, and what if any rights do we have with all that ive mentioned. We don't have money to move in such a short amount of time! What, if any, compensation or buyout are entitled to even tho they haven't tried to give us this option. They think we are idiots but I'm someone who loves to research and have learned most of our rights but they have made this entire clusterf*** so complicatedicated. We are playing dumb tho and we have informed them that we are not going anywhere for now.
