My question involves a child custody case from the State of: VA
My ex and I went to mediation through a mediation company in county A. I was planning on moving out of the state and we were under some time pressure. It all went well and it was all done. A few weeks later I receive a letter from County B (the county we were residing) court telling me I need to come to court ordered mediation. Turns out, County B court requires parents to use a court ordered mediator first and if they cant come to an agreement they will see the judge on a different day. They do not accept mediation done by someone else. When we walked into court, we saw the same guy that was our mediator at the place that we had to pay for.
When we talked to him the first time, we told him that we are living in county B and I feel like he should have informed that he works as a mediator at the court house and that the court requires mediation.
Am I just out of luck or is the request for a refund valid?
