Disciplinary Issues: Open Ended Suspension Causing Problems

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Tennessee

I work(ed) for a call center that serves various clients. My client team was a bank. On July 19th I was put on an indefinite suspension because the bank stated I made the same error on six different occasions. The error was that I did not authenticate the call properly. To be fair, the policy had just changed and my supervisor or coach never pointed out the error to me. It was an honest mistake/lack of knowledge on my part. My supervisor and his supervisor asked the bank to reconsider since they say I am such an exceptionally good worker. I am usually in the top ten out of hundreds of employees. But they no longer want me to work for them.

Anyway I was told my company would do a 3-4 day suspension to have time to investigate the phone calls. If I were not at fault, they would pay me for the missed days and assign me to another client. If I were at fault, I would be terminated. My supervisor told me he thought I would just be moved to another project. But here it is nearly two weeks later and to be honest I was living paycheck to paycheck as it was...AND having to get SNAP (food stamps) for our family to survive.

I have done a search and apparently this company is notorious for doing this...putting people on "indefinite suspension" and giving them the runaround when they try to return to work. Which brings me to another point...I was told to keep in touch and they would keep in touch with me. I have talked to my supervisor (I called) about three or four times and he says no news. When I try to call the HR dept or talk to the head supervisors I am told they (front desk) will leave a message and I never get a call back.

I know what you are thinking. Just get a new job. Well, I am trying but it is not that simple because I am older. And I do believe companies discriminate on age when you go to these interviews. It is not easy for me to just get a new job. But I am applying everywhere. And I will take any job.

Now here is my problem. With it being an indefinite suspension...I do not know what is going on with my benefits. We had eye appointments yesterday and dental appointments on the 8th of this month. I went ahead and applied for unemployment because my supervisor suggested I do so when I asked him (just in case). I am afraid that my company is going to say no, he is not terminated from the company. Then my benefits would be denied. But even more important I have to do a paperwork for my SNAP benefits and at this point I need to apply for more help due to having no money and the dept of human services told me I need a separation notice for this.

At this point I believe it is safe to say that my company is giving me the runaround. But how can I get them to give me the separation notice I need to apply for TANF and additional SNAP benefits? And how can this be legal for a company to put someone on an indefinate suspension without pay for so long and even longer? I have read reports of this company doing this to people for months on end.

I did get them to apply all of my PTO towards this last paycheck so I am only good for two weeks then no more money. I have two job interviews tomorrow and have been applying to everywhere I am qualified to work. Please wish me luck. Thanks.
