My question involves a child custody case from the State of: MO
Ex was put on the state registry for child abuse this year and also has a separate criminal case for abuse that has been sent to the prosecutor. Ex maintains that he is innocent and claims I'm mentally unstable and have brainwashed the kids into believing they were abused. Because of this, the court has ordered that we both undergo a psych eval, but I don't really understand why.
What will a psych eval accomplish?
I didn't brainwash the kids or do any of the awful things ex is alleging (too much to get into here), but I do have a medical diagnosis of anxiety. I take prescription medication for it on a daily basis and have previously attended counseling and therapy. My anxiety does not affect my ability to hold down a job or take care of our children.
I'm assuming the psych eval will mention my diagnosis, but does that even matter in court?
And what if the psych eval actually finds that my ex has some sort of psychiatric issues? Will that even matter?
I guess I just don't understand the point of a psych eval. My ex does some awful things, but I'm not perfect either. I'm not sure what this test is looking for or how it affects custody, especially since I'm assuming it will say we both have some issues.
At court, my ex bragged the psych eval will prove he's innocent of child abuse and prove that I'm practicing parental alienation. This doesn't make much sense to me, but it's probably because I just don't understand the purpose of the evaluations. I've tried Googling the process, but there isn't much info online.
