Calculation of Support: How to Determine Amount Paid when Parent Owns LLC and Pays Themselves

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: Texas.
My child's bio and completely absent father (until recently) has asked to be a part of her life and financially support the child. My husband (the only father she has ever known) and I met with him to discuss moving forward. The bio father came up with the number of $800 a month, saying " I only pay myself $4k a month or $48k a year from my company, because that is all I want to pay taxes on" We all know that his " worth" is much higher than that. Isn't support based on more than "what a person pays themselves" ?Just moments before I did tell him that if he pays support monthly and half of the child's tuition to private school then we would continue to pay all other expenses like medical, dental and all other extra curricular activities. And, no backpay expected from him.. We don't NEED his money, however, if we are going to rearrange our life, for him to become a part of our childs, then meeting half way would be helpful. When emotions are involved, and no one has been through this before then it gets confusing. Maybe someone here can help? We had $1500 and half of school($600) in mind. But, $800 was pretty low I thought? Is that even normal?
Yes, I am aware that we "could" go the legal route with court orders in place etc... but we don't want to do that. We almost went there with a HUGE legal battle, but we decided to do this our own way instead. When we settle on a number, then if he pays then great. If not, then we wont suffer. But, I would like to be fair and there is NO WAY that $800 puts a dent in expenses.
