My question involves a marriage in the state of: Florida
My coworker who is from India got arranged marriage to an Indian guy, they moved to Florida 10 years ago and have 2 children under 10. According to her, the husband has been threatening to divorce her to get his way all along but this time he just wants to do it because he wants to move on from this marriage. They have 2 children together. Husband has sent a written communication to her making clear of his intention which is 1) Divorce her 2) Sell the house and not divide any asset. 3) Move to India after the divorce and never return. 4) Not pay any alimony or child support.
Her husband who is a doctor and the breadwinner of the family laid out a plan to do everything and be out of the process in less than a month, he has set a dead-drop date to have everything done and communicated that date to her as well. He has stated that he has transferred all his savings, financial portfolio to his bank accounts in India, the only thing left is home equity which he is not willing to share any.
The lady is a part-timer secretary and barely makes 15k per year which is not enough to feed and shelter the family of 3 after the divorce.
My questions on her behalf are.
1) Can her husband divorce her, sell the house, flee to India with everything and abandon the family like that?
2) What would be the best way to stop him from fleeing the country without making sure he will be responsible for the children?
3) Are there organizations that can help helpless spouses like her with things such as legal fees, education, financial help after divorce?
Thanks
