I have been selected for a Trainee program under J-1 which requires certain documentation and eventually needs processing through the embassy. At the same time, I have been admitted to a Masters program in the States which starts mid September.
While I am unsure if I shall be able to secure a J-1 visa, can I, in the meantime, apply for my F-1 so I can at least join the program in September? If, however, I am able to secure a J-1, I can disregard my F-1 for the time being. Would an F-1 in my file hinder any chances of securing a J-1?
In short, can I transfer my F-1 to a J-1 if I haven't traveled to the States for my F-1 program?
