My question involves criminal records for the state of:
Hi. I was arrested only one time in my life. I was 29 years old at the time (six years ago) and I was arrested for simple assault battery and disorderly conduct. However, when I check my criminal records on background websites such as Been Verified, it says assault and battery without the "simple" which really upsets me because my charge and my court date took place in a misdemeanor court so I don't understand why "simple" wasn't included. An attorney wouldn't even take my case at the time because it was held in our misdemeanor court, so I couldn't even fight the charge appropriately. What winded up happening is I got community service. When I check our local police department police records online, my charge doesn't even come up, which I am very thankful for. I never paid to get it expunged because I never had the money to. However, my charge is now showing up on all websites. I know I have to finally get an expungement (which I am eligible for) and send it to these websites, but where do I even begin because there are so many websites. Here are my concerns:
-If I go to my police dept and start the expongement process, I'm afraid it will somehow show up on our police internet website when that's the only place it's not showing up, go figure. I'm very thankful it's not on there and don't want to rock the boat.
-What if I pay the money for the expongement and the websites don't even remove it or put it back up on a later date
-Where do I even start when I get the expongement, is there a list of background check websites that I can start with?
-How do I know which employeers use what website to check my criminal background? Those are the websites I really need to start with first but I have no clue which ones they use
-lastly, not that I would ever work with elderly or children or animals, but maybe one day I would like to volunteer in the future. I made one mistake and NO ONE was injured, it was such a ridiculous fight and very mild and I was protecting myself, and everyone that knows me knows I am not violent and a very loving person. If anyone who knew me were to look me up and found an assault charge, they would be very surprised and say this is not right.
So with this charge, would I ever be able to work with elderly, children or animals, or would I be banned from that forever? That's really hard to take for one stupid mistake incident.
I know this is very long and if anyone were to answer, I would be very grateful just for that. I just need someone to guide me in this because I am lost as what to do here to get my name off of these websites and would it even be worth it because most websites don't even take it down, or wind up putting it back on at a later time, I heard.
