What is an Llm Authorized to Do

I am starting a business and will be partnering with either an LL.M. or J.D. I want to go with the LL.M. because they have a specialization in tax law. But I am concerned that I will be out of options should I get sued in business.

Is an LL.M. authorized to represent me in court and can they provide legal advice?
