My question involves estate proceedings in the state of: California. The family trust of my mother was dispersed and closed last year. I found a expired California state tax refund check doing taxes this year. Seems like too much trouble to reopen the trust. As I recall the bank would not accept the check because the bank account was in the name of the family trust and the refund was was made out to Estate of my mother. Are there consequences for not cashing the check? Seems like too much time and money to reopen for such a small amount. Thanks for any comments.
