Relocation: We Already Live in Separate States, Do I Need Permission to Move Again

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: Tennessee
I currently live in Tennessee and my ex-husband lives in New Mexico. My children visit him 6 times per year (we each pay for 3 flights per year) and most of the summer. In the summer of 2018 my daughter will graduate from high school and move on to college. My son has decided to move to New Mexico to live with his father during his high school years, which I am fine with. The 6x per year visitation will still stand.

Once my son moves to live with his father, my husband and I will be empty-nesters and have the opportunity to be posted at several different army bases in Texas, Colorado, Washington or California. We will not know where they send us until a few weeks prior to the move. Originally he was planning to retire at that time and we would be moving back to Colorado.

My ex-husband wants to prepare a modification which will show that he will be the main custodial parent for my son until he reaches 18. He also wants to put in the modification that I will be moving back to my home in Colorado at the same time and that he approves of the move.

My questions: Do I need to get permission from him to move if he has become the custodial parent and we already live in different states? Does he have to approve the location ahead of time? Would I need permission if my son moved with me? Airline ticket prices would actually be cheaper from any of those states (and the flights are shorter) than they are from Tennessee, so it wouldn't change anything financially. Does my relocation even need to be part of the modification?
