My niece stays with her boyfriend in his home in Syracuse, NY. They no longer see eye to eye and he actually put her out of the house at one point. She was later allowed to return to the house until she find her own place. The problem is that she cannot find a place there - she can't afford it. They're not married to each other and so they have no legal relation. She wants to move back to California with the baby, not necessarily on a permanent basis but to move in with her mom. My understanding is that she cannot do this with the baby since it belongs to her dad as much as her. But is there some sort of protection she has so that she can at least land on her feet here in Cali?
His house is in his name. The car that she was making payments on is also in his name. I told her to stop making payments on it but she works and needs to get to work.
Any suggestions or advice?
