Security Deposits: Must I Return My Renters Security Deposit

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Virginia
I own a home in Northern Virginia and co-habitat it with 2 tenants. Recently, the police executed a search warrant on my home because one of the renters(renter A) was selling marijuana. Although this renter has since left, while the police searched they also found illegal substances in my other renters room(renter B).
Afterwards, renter B discarded his cellphone and didn't return for about a week. I was informed through a mutual friend that he was unlikely to return.
Unfortunately in his absence my boyfriend took a bottle of alcohol from his room thinking he wasn't coming back.
When he did return he was extremely angry that the his property was missing and began moving his belongings out the next week.
Renter B was a month to month renter and now wants his security deposit back.
He did not give me the 30 day notice we agreed upon and he had illegal drugs in my home. He is claiming the fact my boyfriend stole a bottle of alcohol from him he deserves his deposit back and I disagree.
My question is if I'm legally obligated to return his security deposit and if I'm responsible for the actions of my boyfriend taking that bottle in regards to the lease agreement between the 2 of us.

Thanx, appreciate any advice
