Why is the Anonymous Tip Line Not Very Anonymous Can I Sue

My question involves police conduct in the State of: CA

I gave the police an anonymous tip and they told the people in question so now I am scared. I thought I was doing the right thing but obviously not so can I sue them for giving out the information with my name. I don't really want to sue but how am I suppose to let people know that the police in San Francisco will tell the perps if it gets them a promotion. WOW
