Compensation and Overtime: Can Time Off for Volunteer Work Be Compensated in the Following Week

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Indiana

I am drafting a Volunteer Time Off policy for my company which operates M-F, 8-5. My inquiry relates to hourly non-exempt employees and volunteering on Saturdays. I was given guidance that I could pay my hourly employees for their regular work M-F (40 hours) and if they volunteered for a non-profit, for example Habitat for Humanity, on a Saturday they could take a paid day off (VTO) in the future. The concept was they are volunteering and not under any control or direction of the company or their supervisor. A paid day off (VTO) could be treated as a reward in recognition for volunteering in the community.

I just want to vet this further. Does this sound legal? I want to do what is right and not violate the law. If I am able to let the employees take a day off when convenient for them it would allow them more flexibility. If not, it makes it more cumbersome for the hourly non-exempt employees to coordinate their work schedule to allow for volunteering on a Saturday.

I appreciate any feedback you have to offer.
