My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: Maryland
I'm asking this question because I'm a little confused as to why a person would receive a ticket for "DRIVING VEH. ON HWY. WITH CANCELLED REGISTRATION". My brother has received 2 such tickets. The most recent one was also accompanied with FAILURE TO ATTACH VEHICLE REGISTRATION PLATES AT FRONT AND REAR. From doing research it seems the most common reason (other than forgetfulness) for this is because the person can't get insurance, therefore they don't register the vehicle. But if this is the case wouldn't the police officer immediately discover this upon checking the situation once they are pulled over? From checking with law office websites, they indicate that it's unusual to see this charge by itself usually it's because they can't get insurance. The fact that they don't have tags on the front and back somewhat reinforces this?
My understanding at least in Maryland is that you must have insurance to drive and being caught without it is an immediate trip to the slammer? Do police have no way to verify insurance upon being pulled over?
