Fences and Walls: Ownership for Land or Improvements Located Outide Property Boundary

My question involves real estate located in the State of: Hawaii

I wanted to know, if I could be responsible for anything located outside my property boundary? Specifically, there is a retaining wall that retains the soil of my property, but the wall is located completely outside my property boundary. The wall was constructed in the 1950's by the developer and there is no permit or original plans for this wall. There are no encroachment agreements for this wall. A portion of this particular wall failed and I believe, since it is located on my neighbors property, it is their responsibility to maintain and replace when a catastrophic event like this happens. Furthermore, this wall appears to be constructed to benefit my neighbor. It is the lower of two retaining walls. The upper wall is within my property boundary, and I take ownership for this wall. Any ideas? Thanks
