My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Washington; Whitman County
Hi all,
I'm hoping I can get some advice on how I should proceed with a recent ticket.
I was traveling N. on Hwy 195 between Colton, WA and Pullman, WA at a rate of speed of about 40 mph driving a 1991 Ford Ranger Super Cab 4WD (I did not have 4WD engaged at the time)
The roads were snowy, and somewhat slick. However, I was driving what seemed to be an appropriate speed for the conditions and for my ability.
I was maintaining pace with most of the surrounding traffic (which was light, probably spread apart about 0.5-1.0 miles) I had been passed by a couple other vehicles going a fair bit faster, but I had not passed anyone myself.
I came up a small hill to a left hand corner (http://ift.tt/2mYRKkA) (The corner, and final resting place of my P/U is under the green bush) when I hit a patch of ice and my back-end started fishtailing to the right, I started to correct and was letting my speed drop off, without using my brakes. And just when I thought I was going to bring it back under control my back-end slid around to the left at which point my whole pickup started sliding sideways toward the ditch. I am not entirely certain what happened after that to cause my nose to come back around and face the road and for it to roll over onto it's roof.
I was able to exit the vehicle uninjured, where I then got a ride to town, called WHITCOM (which is the dispatch center) Notified them what had happened, and where my vehicle was. They requested I return to the scene to meet with an State Patrol Officer, and provide him with details for the accident report.
He asked what had happened, I told him I started fishtailing to side, attempted to correct, just when I thought I was successful, it fishtailed the other direction and went into the ditch.
He did not ask my speed, or if there were any other vehicles etc.
He cited me for a violation of WA RCW 46.61.400.3 Speed to fast for conditions.
My pickup was totaled, and I had it towed, however, no other property was damaged during the wreck.
Now a little about me:
I am 21 yrs old, have held a drivers license since I was 17, and a class A CDL (which the officer did NOT check the box for on the citation) since I was 19.
I have around 71625 verifiable miles in a semi, and around another 30K non verifiable miles, plus a 35 mile commute (1 way) to work almost everyday in my personal vehicle which I have been doing for the past
2.5 yrs. So I know the road and the corners and such very well on it. I have never had a traffic ticket before, and I have a clean criminal record.
Also, On the collision report, he did not specify if the damage threshold had been met or not. He was in a hurry to get to 2 other roll overs about 10 & 17 miles up the road so did not really spend much time on mine.
Also, he arrived around 1.5 - 2 hrs after the accident had happened, and road conditions had changed some in that time.
What would be my best course of action? Should I try to contest it?
I open to any ideas!
Thanks so much for any help!
