Default: Printer Broken, Ticket Sent Two Weeks Later

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Michigan

I was pulled over on September 7th and was told I was being ticketed for failure to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. The officer told me his ticket printer was broken and he would have it mailed to me. I told him I was in the process of moving and gave him my new address. On September 26th the ticket arrived at the address of my ex-wife after being forwarded from our old address. The post mark on the envelope was September 20th. I called the court and they told me that there had already been a default judgment and I could file something to appeal it if I included the money for the fine. I wanted to go to court to ask if I could get a payment plan as I am disabled and receive Ssdi and would not be able to afford to pay rent and the ticket. What can I do now because the officer never gave me a court date or amount of fine or other info?
