My question involves court procedures for the state of: kansas
I had a student loan default in which the state was taking my state tax refund for 2 years. I had a collection agency trying to collect on the account as well through mail. I had made no other payments other than what they got from my refund. In mid June, I received a summons from the sheriff, from an attorneys office stating they were taking me to court for the remaining $2100 of the $4200 debt. I called the collection agency that had been sending me mail, and they told me if I paid the debt In full before the court date that the case would be dismissed. (I've done that before and it was quickly terminated ) So that's what I did.
I decided to check the status on the courts website today and it says there's a default judgement/uncontested something or other against me. Then it states the case was disposed, then a earnings garnishment was requested, and lastly that a garnishment was ordered. This all comes 3 weeks after the court date. I've not received any mail since the summons besides my payment receipt. It's been over 5 weeks since I've paid.
Did my receipt of payment not reach the right party? Do I need to contact the original creditor(school) ? Clerk at the courthouse? Collection attorney? Collection agency? I've emailed just about everyone involved hoping for answers. Thank you.
