Pets and Animals: Ownership of Pet Adopted by Non-Married Couple in Pennsylvania

My question involves personal property located in the State of: Pennsylvania

My now ex-boyfriend and I have lived together for over four years, in a home he owns. He asked me to move out, to which I agreed, and am vacating by the end of this month. The issue is that we are fighting over ownership of a cat we adopted during this time together. He is claiming the cat is HIS property but on the actual adoption form, only MY signature appears. He and I are both listed on the line for Adopter Name(s). I believe he actually wrote the check for the adoption fees, and paid most of the vet bills (as his income is significantly higher he typically paid for more expensive bills and I did more of the care, such as being the litter box cleaner, medication giver, etc.), but I paid for some of the vet bills, and also paid for food, toys, treats, etc. during this time.

Who legally owns this cat? If I just up and take the cat with me, does he have any legal recourse? Can he prevent me from taking the cat?

We also adopted a dog that I'm pretty sure only he signed for on the adoption papers and most definitely paid the fee for, even though at the time, he said he adopted her 'for me', he now denies that and says that she too is his only and is refusing to even let me visit once I move out.
