My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of North Carolina as an out of state driver.
Yesterday I turned out of my apartment complex and proceeded to drive down the road and completely didn't notice there was a bus coming up the hill and about to stop. I didn't notice it until right as I was about to pass it. I was driving the opposite direction of the bus.
I panicked not knowing if I could come to a stop without skidding as I was going 35-40 mph and I had my cat with me in the front seat on our way to the vet. I didn't have her buckled in (she was in her carrier but loosely sitting in the front seat) next to me as our vet is close by and was in a hurry so I didn't buckle her carrier in and was afraid of stopping and having her slid off the seat. In the moment of panic not knowing if I could stop without skidding I just didn't. I didn't have time to think.
After going past I felt like a complete idiot and have been worrying about it and googling stuff all day about it.
What's the chance I get a ticket? Also this is out of state. I am in North Carolina for school but have an out of state license plate. I do not know if that bus had cameras or not. I looked up that as of December 2015, only 10 out of 600 school buses in this county have a camera system. So that's not a lot but if a kid on the bus got a picture of my car can they use that as evidence or does it have to come from the bus driver camera?
What's the chance a kid was able to snap a pic on a phone that clearly shows while I was moving? The bad part is my out of state car is one that has license plates on the front and back- not just the back end as North Carolina license plates do. There were also two stopped cars in the lane behind the bus that could've seen. I found out it must show the license plate and the driver clearly to be cited. Also, as an out of state license plate, the car title is owned by my dad so I would assume he'd get the ticket in the mail? How long can that take to find out if I'm in the clear if he doesn't receive a ticket at home?
I've also never had a traffic ticket or infraction of any kind. There is nothing on my driving record so would that maybe help me?
I'm just so worried how much the ticket could be as an out of state driver, how long to wait to see if I get one etc
