Hit-and-Run Accidents: Accused of Hit and Run Through Other Parties Insurance

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Texas

Hello,

I live in Dallas, TX and recently (3/31/16) received a call from another insurance company asking me to call them back about an "accident I was involved in on 3/24/16". I was very confused because I do not have this insurance company and have not been involved in any accidents in almost 2 years, so I naturally called them back to try and clear up the mistake as they never used my name in the initial message.

When I finally got connected to the insurance person (unsure of what his title actually is) who is somewhere in California, he proceeded to ask me to confirm my name, the make and model of my car and whether or not I live in Dallas, TX which I did. He told me that a woman in Dallas claims I was in a hit and run accident with her at a stop light on a road that I admit I probably was travelling on that day as it is part of my normal commute home. He claims that because I admitted to driving the same car described and living in the area described, I was indeed the person who hit the woman and that I needed to provide my insurance info and send pictures of my car to prove to them I was not in an accident. I absolutely know that I would never hit someone's car and run off and cannot recall any person honking angrily at me or trying in any way to get me to pull over and exchange insurance info like you normally would following an accident. The only details I have about the person accusing me are that she is a woman who claims I side swiped her while she was stopped at a traffic light and then drove off. My car, which is a mid size white 4-door sedan, has absolutely no damage to the sides or paint transfer that one would think might indicate even a minor side swipe accident.

My question is whether I have to give the insurance company photos of my car? The man I spoke with all but accused me of hitting this woman but I cannot recall having any accident, there is no evidence on MY car that anything happened, and I certainly know that I didn't purposely drive away from an accident. Because I have no details on the other person I wonder if this is a scam. The insurance person is from Geico which makes me believe it's likely legit, but I also don't know if there is a police report or what car the other person drives. However, if she literally copied my plate number, presumably while stopped at the light, this might mean she was likely unaware of what was damaged before she made up her mind to write down my plate which makes me suspect that this could be a scam or someone looking for a way to get free car repairs through my insurance. At this point it is just a he said-she said case, so why do I need to waste my time defending myself for an accident I didn't have? To this point I have not heard anything about a police report or other witnesses, but can one be made against me if I refuse to cooperate? What is the likelihood that my mid size sedan can sideswipe another car causing extensive damage to it without my car having any damage or paint transfer itself? Is is ok to ignore them?
