Why does the U.S., unlike most other developed countries, record arrests and charges that did not result in convictions in public record? Doesn't this punish harshly those who are presumed innocent, since they haven't been proven guilty in a court of law? This just seems immensely unjust, especially in certain cases like sexual violence where the stigma lingers strong even without a conviction.
