My question involves business law in the state of: Louisiana & New York
I registered for an LLC in the state of Louisiana in 2010. However, my tax preparer has always filed my taxes under my SS# and not my EIN #.
I have foolishly paid very little attention to my LLC/legal status. Of late, I'm starting to tie up loose ends in life and am now giving this attention.
I am a freelancer / independent contractor. It's just me, I don't have employees or hire other contracted labor. I moved from Louisiana to New York in 2013, but never moved my LLC. Ever since creating the LLC, I have used my EIN# on all W9's.
Today, I checked the status of my LLC via the Louisiana Secretary of State and found out that it was revoked as of 2014... I think. The report is linked below (Google Drive).
Questions:
1. What does this mean? Have I been operating as an LLC or a sole proprietor?
2. Now that I am a resident of New York should I reregister the LLC or continue the course?
3. I know I need to update my W9, but to what?
Thanks for your knowledge and guidance.
