My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: South Dakota (SD)
I bought a used car from a private owner whose car was on lien. After I pay up for the car, he paid up the outstanding loan at the bank in front of me. Bank informed that he will get his title released and sent to his address in 2 weeks time. Once he received the title, he signed it over to me.
But the title he received is a Iowa state title in which he actually got the loan. But DMV of SD informed me that title was registered with them and they need SD title to complete the title transfer, since that is the recent title.
I contacted the previous owner and he talked to bank. They told this the title they have and he gave a notary certificate saying the lien on the car (with VIN # on it) has been cleared completely.
Any help on this issue on how to proceed from here will be appreciated.
