My question involves criminal law for the state of: NY
If a great deal of money and resources are spent on a criminal investigation, but the lead detective cannot convince prosecution to take the case, or all charges end up getting dropped on lack of evidence, is that detective or police agency held responsible? Are there some sort of repercussions for this? Or is it just accepted that sometimes this happens in criminal investigations? Thank you.
