My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Washington
I received an infraction notice for speeding in a school zone, through camera photo enforcement. This exact camera in question, however, has been the discussion of another thread here on ExpertLaw, as well as from local news coverage (first and second) and another forum discussion as problematic because the camera was placed outside of the 300 foot school zone. The school itself, Montlake Elementary, is over two blocks from the camera. The camera that recorded the photo was placed on Northbound 24th Ave NE, directly across the street from 2219 24th Ave NE.
Do these previous reported successes indicate that I have a greater likelihood of having the ticket dismissed if I contest the infraction? Is it possible the city of Seattle has addressed this by conducting an engineering study?
If I want to contest on the grounds that this not a school zone or crosswalk, should I follow blewis' procedural guide and request a hearing to contest? Should I request an engineering study during discovery?
On the other hand if this seems an unlikely scenario, I would rather simply pay the citation fee.
