My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: NY
I recently had my 16 year old car serviced at a dealership's garage for a squeak in the brake pedal and was charged over $110 for "removing dust from the rear drums and shoes". I also had them look at the air conditioner which wasn't working. They said it was because the clutch was seized and not engaging the compressor - diagnostic fee - $80 without doing a thing, but if I wanted it repaired it would be about $800. And changing the transmission fluid cost $102 and they didn't even include the filter. The car was in the garage for 2 and a half hours while I waited there. Everyone to whom I mentioned this said I was over-charged and kept waiting much too long for what was done. I am almost forced to go to the dealership garage since it's a foreign car, so most local mechanics won't service it. According to the dealership, their cars require special tranny fluid that is not available on the general market.
