Child Support Obligations for Split Custody

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: Texas

My husband has 2 children with his ex wife, which he pays $1200/mo child support for.
This amount was agreed to during their divorce because he was directly paying for their house after moving out and is what is ordered in their papers.
Everything has changed since then (she moved out of the house anyways, into a much cheaper duplex apt)

Within the last year, his son (who is now 14) has moved in with us. His ex wife now has physical custody of their daughter, and he has physical custody of his son.
He agreed to continue to pay her the full child support amount to her in order to make sure his daughter is taken care of. (His Ex-Wife flat refuses to work to support them, instead lives entirely off his child support payments, and government assistance). Nothing has been filed as to the change in residences, as the Ex was afraid it would affect her government assistance if she only could report having 1 child in the household.

We are looking at filing for custody of his daughter, as his ex-wife is an alcoholic, and continues to spiral out of control despite continually being placed in rehab. She creates a very toxic and unhealthy home for the kids, barely gets off the couch, has stopped taking his daughter to her gymnastics classes, has made her start riding the bus instead of taking her to school/picking her up.

We need to look at filing for modification of custody for his son to get things updated with the courts regardless, but wonder how child support would be figured, when the other parent does not work?
His Gross income for the last 2 years has been $90-100k. So he wonders with even getting custody of one of the children, he would still be paying her more in child support for the other child?
