Resignation: Former Manager Threatened to Sue Me for Deleting Some Files

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: California

Hi, there,

I just resigned from a company. Before I quit, I uploaded all the important files that my manager asked for, and then I deleted some files I believed they were worthless. Now the former manager who is angry with my resigning is digging into this thing.

After doing some research online, I've known that deleting files before resignation could be a big problem, and I believe that the manager will try her best to exaggerate the importance of the deleted files. She said she might send me a big bill for recovering the data, or even worse, sue me for harming the benefits of company.

There wasn't any instruction from company telling me what I should do or should not do after I sent the two weeks resignation notice, I just did things base on my knowledge, without any intention to harm anything or anyone. Besides, those files were just some draft I created for test, and I was the only one who used them.

Can she do that to me? What should I do now?

Thank you

Emily
