Lease Purchase Gone Wrong

My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: live in indiana, dealer in Ohio

At the end of my lease, I had a third party buyer buy the vehicle to avoid fees for excess miles and wear. The third party purchased vehicle, left the lot with the car that day, and my account thru Nissan was closed as being paid in full a few days later.

Over a month later, the third party received a call from dealership stating that they made errors in the paperwork and the third party buyer needed to resign everything. The third party buyer initially agreed, but then refused since all new paperwork was back dated and stated that the first monthly payment was already past due, which the dealer tried to smooth over by saying "there is always a grace period". The third party buyer stated they still wanted to purchase the vehicle, but through another dealer because it had become such a fiasco there. The dealer said they'd work on unwinding the deal and the third party buyer remained in possession of the vehicle. Almost two months later now, the dealer contacts the third party buyer and asks him to resign the paperwork again, they were unable to unwind everything. The third party buyer then refused to give the dealership his business and returned the vehicle to the dealership as they were technically the owners.

My question is regarding my Liability with Nissan Corporate, who owned my lease contract? Can they now hold me liable for the excess mileage and wear? The vehicle was actually purchased from NMAC by the dealer. I've called the CS line and they say the account is closed and sent me a paid in full letter. I have not been contacted at all by Nissan Corporate or the dealership. However, the third party buyer felt bad as he told me they kept threatening him that if he didn't resign the backdated paperwork and let the deal fall through that I would then be liable for these mileage/wear fees.

Is this true? What should I do next as I don't want an unexpected bill down the road? Appreciate the insight.
