My question involves criminal law for the state of: California
Back in March of this year, 2017, i was in the car with my girlfriend n didn't have my seatbelt on. A police car was coming opposite direction of us n turned around n eventually pulled us over because i didnt have my seatbelt on. Another unit comes and as the officer who pulled us over is talking with my girlfriend the other officer asks me to step out the car. He asks if im on parole or probation, (which i am not) and he asks if i have anything illegal on me and i say no. So he starts to pat me down and goes into my side pocket on my shorts n finds a little bag of contraband. So he sits me back down goes back to his car then calls me over and asks me a few questions and gives me a ticket. My question is did he have the right to go into my pockets when im not on parole or probation?
Thank you in advance
